ABOUT
GÁBOR SVAGRIK was born in Szeged, Hungary. His family immigrated to the United States and settled in Illinois. Svagrik studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago where he was fortunate to study with nationally recognized watercolorist Irving Shapiro who stressed the importance of composition, design, and drawing. Svagrik devoted his studies to life drawing and illustration and went on to join the Palette & Chisel in Chicago. He always found the pure and simple beauty in masters of the past such as Daniel Garber, Frits Thaulow, Ernest L. Blumenschein, and Edgar Payne.
Svagrik ended up in Arizona after traveling westward, where he now spends his time as a dedicated painter. While he occasionally teaches workshops around the world, his main focus is on creating & teaching art courses through the Tucson Art Academy Online. He founded the art academy in 2008 and owns it with his wife, Christine. In addition, Svagrik collaborated with renowned artist Phil Starke to open Easel Insight, an online membership site aimed at educating art students worldwide. With his passion for all things art, Svagrik also co-founded Sojourn Fine Art in 2020.
For the past 30 years, I have been working hard on my craft. The truth is, “one must learn the craft in order to create art.” This is the philosophy I live by and will continue to do so until I can’t hold the brush. I knew through my passion, patience, persistence, and hard work I would one day have the knowledge to create my vision.
Mother Nature is a source of inspiration for many artists. It is a place where they can go to get filled up with ideas and creativity. For most true artists, nature is perfection. No matter how many times you stand and look at the same landscape, the beauty is always there, staring back at you differently every time.
This beauty is what I try to capture on my canvas. It has become my artistic journey and is what differentiates me from other artists. I will forever be humbled and honored to have found my passion in life!
