Best Cameras for Landscape Painters

It is amazing how many choices we have these days when it comes to cameras and technology. You have probably heard the saying “The best camera is always the one that’s with you.” These days, that’s usually your phone. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max. It is a large one that has a fairly decent zoom. One of the bad things with phone cameras is that they usually really fail at the zoom part. Mine is decent, but it is nothing compared to your regular camera with an interchangeable or fixed lens.

One of the best compact cameras that I have found is made by Sony DSC RX 100 VII.

When I bought it, it was about $1200. But, it was the only one in the compact size that has a 200-millimeter optical lens. It has an incredible zoom on it and is extremely light. It is about the size of my phone. It is one of the best cameras I have used and tested outdoors. The compact size with the optical zoom is hard to beat. It also records beautiful 4K videos and takes nice images with great color quality. Then, you can always get a little bigger and get into the mirrorless cameras. The DSLR’s are going away and now we have mirrorless. If you are getting a camera that has an interchangeable lens, make sure it is 18 to 200 or bigger for landscape photography. It does get heavier because there is more glass involved.

I take a lot of pictures with my phone camera because it’s always with me. It has been more phones and fewer cameras on the field. Oftentimes, I don’t need great detail if I am not blowing them up and printing them up. For painting purposes, the phone does a fair amount. One of the advantages of upgrading your iPhone is that the lenses keep improving. I would urge you to upgrade if you can because of the zoom and photo quality.
